Blog Reflection 1 - October 6, 2025
Hi, Professor Schmitz Weiss!
Today is Oct. 6, 2025, and I’d like to give you an update on the course so far. First of all, I had an amazing time doing last week’s Story Pitch presentation. It taught me many new principles about journalism and how important it is to apply those key ideas to your work, as it makes it more sophisticated and insightful. I think I did quite well on the presentation, visuals, and the overall pitch, and I’m eager to dive deeper into it for the assignment. I also learned a lot about working with Adobe and the key features it offers, which I’ll continue to use for future projects.
I really enjoyed this past week’s lecture as we explored social media and the different key aspects behind it. As someone who works with social media and loves to live-stream, it sparked my interest seeing what the lectures had to offer and what new elements I could apply to my own work. Moving forward, I’m excited to start researching and getting my interviews underway for my pitch. I’ve been brainstorming ideas and thinking about them thoroughly, so I’m looking to put all the principles I’ve learned into practice.
So far, I’ve been loving learning more about digital journalism, and I know I’ll apply all this knowledge to my future.
Blog Reflection 2 - November 3, 2025
Today is Nov. 3, 2025, and I'd like to give another update on how the semester has been going for me so far regarding this class. We have recently been focusing a lot on Google Spreadsheet work, which I have found to be so interesting, yet so challenging at the same time. I have learned a lot of the principles when it comes to building graphs, charts, and tables. Creating the math tip sheet was a little harder than I expected, but I know that I will carry all those formulas and knowledge with me as the semester goes on. I think it was the most helpful assignment we've had to date!
For my infographic coming up, I want to apply these principles to my work. After brainstorming ideas, I decided to go with a Google Maps showcasing all the different areas and streets around San Diego State University. These streets will be the busiest ones around the college neighborhood and will give the viewers a feel of how busy it gets in certain areas. Streets I have brainstormed to use are 54th Street, Mary Lane Road, East Falls View Drive, and Campanile Drive. I will be making a Google Spreadsheet with the longitude and latitude of each street and then importing them to a Google Map.
Excited for what's to come as we close this amazing semester!
